UK investors strongly bought the dip in US equities in March, but nerves are clear to see______

Volatile stock markets failed to deter investors in March, with UK investors adding a net £1.38bn to equity funds, the best month of the year so far for the asset class.

Key highlights from this month’s FFI:

  • Equity funds saw net inflows of £1.38bn in March
  • North American equities (mainly US-focused funds) absorbed £1.77bn, the third best month on record
  • Trading volumes in North American funds jumped – indicating strong disagreement between bulls and bears
  • European equities saw inflows as share prices rose
  • UK-focused funds suffered their worst ever quarter, despite higher UK stock market
  • Bond funds suffered outflows while safe-haven money-market funds enjoyed a record quarter
