24 teams from the UK fund management industry raise £12,500 for Make-A-Wish® UK.
24 June 2016 – LONDON: State Street Global Advisors has won the sixth annual Funds Industry Football Charity Shield five-a-side tournament beating Smith & Williamson 2-1 in the final game held yesterday in Shoreditch, London. Hosted by Calastone, the global funds transaction network, the tournament has raised over £60,000 since its inception and this year will add a fantastic £12,500 to that total.
In 2016, teams from leading fund management firms played 22 games of football to raise money for Make-A-Wish® UK, the charity that grants wishes of children and young people living with life-threatening illnesses.
State Street won this year’s tournament against 24 other teams, including 3 teams from Calastone, playing in the knockout rounds. The winning team also included the Man of the Tournament, Michael Kadis. In total, the tournament saw 102 goals scored in all 22 matches.
Make-A-Wish Chief Executive Jason Suckley said: “I want to say a huge thank you to Calastone and everyone taking part in what was a fantastic event. Your support is invaluable and will go a long way in helping the seriously ill children and young people that turn to us.”
Jon Willis, Chief Commercial Officer of Calastone, said: “Congratulations to State Street Global Advisors for winning this year’s tournament! The 2016 tournament has been hugely enjoyable for everyone involved and we are enormously proud that this sixth annual Football Charity Shield has enabled the UK funds industry to come together to raise £12,500 for a very deserving cause, Make-A-Wish UK.”
